The Vultures and the Doe

13. 12. 2024 -
30. 03. 2025

The Vultures and the Doe is one of three winter exhibitions running at EPO1 until the end of March 2025. Jan Vičar, a prominent figure on the Czech art scene and winner of numerous prestigious awards, presents his largest exhibition to date in the Czech Republic, made possible by the generous space of EPO1’s turbine hall. His work mixes reality with the surreal world, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and tension. He experiments with techniques such as woodcut and linocut, and crosses the boundaries of traditional printmaking, for example through monumental prints made on a press of his own design.

His work reflects the multilayered nature of the world – layers of colour printed from different shaped matrices intermingle, as do the different planes of reality and imagination in his work. He draws inspiration from personal experiences and journeys, which he transforms into unique visual diaries full of symbolism and emotion.
